Acid reflux from Care2

Try to exclude caffeine, spices, fatty foods and citrus fruits from your diet and restrict the consumption of alcohol. Avoid smoking, as it can also aggravate the

condition. Try to replace synthetic medications with natural cures for acid reflux and introduce healthy, carbohydrate rich foods in your diet (rice, bread, pasta).

One of the best natural cures for acid reflux is considered to be apple cider vinegar. In order to maximize its effects, it must be administered while eating. Mix one tablespoon of apple cider vinegar in a glass of water and drink it with during your meal in order to achieve the best results. For the majority of people with the condition, apple cider vinegar is an effective natural cure that has a calming effect on

the stomach and helps decrease the amount of digestive fluids it produces.

Fresh apples, bananas and grapefruit peels are also effective natural cures for acid reflux. Dried figs, fresh pineapple and papaya are rich in enzymes which help in the process of digestion. They are good natural cures for acid reflux and a source of vitamins and minerals. Carrots and cabbage are also efficient natural cures for acid reflux and can control the secretion of gastric acid inside the stomach.

Cinnamon is considered to be a powerful natural cure for acid reflux. It is renowned for its healing properties and its antiseptic effects. Cinnamon normalizes the activity of the stomach and controls the amount of gastric acid it produces.

Cardamom, Mace, Nutmeg, and Slippery Elm can also make efficient cures for acid reflux. They have a calming effect on the stomach, control the secretion of gastric acid and can relief soreness and pain.

Take steps in improving your lifestyle, reduce stress and follow a good diet. Use natural cures for acid reflux and see which one works best for you. Try to gradually replace synthetic drugs with natural remedies, as they offer good results and are a lot safer to use.

Acne

I have tried Pro-active, Retin-a, & antibiotics which I will highly recommend people NOT use antibiotics. Your body becomes immune to them. I just firmly believe humans aren't supposed to be this sick; we have way too many superbugs out there & people tend to settle. But what helps me is something that most of us has in our medicine cabinet & is cheap. Aspirin. It contains salicylic acid. I put a few tabs in my hand w/ some water to make a paste, I then put it on my pimples. It does flake off but the residue does stay. If I have a horrendous pimple, I put extra on. By the next day, noticable improvement. I just get the Dollar General aspirin. Another thing I do is not wash my face w/ soap. If you must use soap, use castile or glycerin based (gly makes me break out but I know of others who love it). What I've been doing lately is just cleaning my face w/ table sugar (which also diminishes black heads, can use baking soda too but sugar works best for me) & washing w/ water & lavender essential oil. Topicals are great but you need to get to the Why's. I break out during my period & when my digestive system is screwy. I help regulate my period thru nutrition & exercise & I have less breakouts.

Also some people have food allergies that causes breakouts. Some cut out dairy & they get clear skin. So if you break out, look at what you are eating more than what you put on your skin. Also be sure to drink plenty of water.

Another remedy I use for my body (esp. in summer when we tend to sweat more & hence break out more!) is using 10 aspirin in 1t water, 2 oz cornstarch (is a drying agent), 8 drops lavender EO, 2T water, 1/2 T CO (apricot kernel is rich in Vit A). It helps keep your skin cleansed & smooth & breakout free. I can't use this on my face as it's too oily. Tho apricot kernel is wonderful for fine lines 'cos of the high Vit A content.

Neem is also a good one as well as tea tree oil.

Canker sores

Dab on either aloe vera gel, BS, aspirin (don’t leave on too long ‘cos aspirin will burn your inner mouth).

Rinse with 2 oz each HP & water or 1t each BS & salt.

Cold/flu

What works for me is taking the Umcka alcohol free drops from Nature’s Way. At the first sign of a cold, I take it. Works! It’s worth the price. I rather pay the $15 (it lasts me over a year) than get sick & be laid up.

Other remedies you can try:

Astragalus for immune system & colds i.e. Vitamin Shoppe

Kold Care w/ chuan xin lian, andrographis. An herb with antiviral properties, available at drugstores.

Ginseng- COLD-fx, available at drugstores.

Echinacea- EchinaGuard, health food stores.

Pau d’arco for sniffles

Kissing doesn’t increase susceptibility to the cold virus. That’s because saliva (unlike mucus) contains immunoglobulin A, an antibody that kills viruses.

Bell Peppers: Loaded with vitamin C.

Elderberry- help w/ colds & flu, strengthens immune system, shortens colds.

Oregano staves off sniffles & more. One of most nutritious substances on Earth, with 42 times more antioxidants than apples & 30 times more than potatoes. Also loaded w/ antimicrobial compounds that fight cold-causing bacteria. Sprinkle on food each day or look for oil of oregano at health food stores.

Cough

What helps for me, tho temporarily, is take 1t honey (real honey, not the store bought kind, get it from a beekeeper) & 1t lemon juice (I use ReaLemon). Mix, drink. It does soothe it. Honey calms the cough & even kills antibiotic resistant superbugs.

Tried these & they worked, tho again, temporarily:

horehound candy lozenges for wet (have tried & worked! but they are only at health food stores & we don't have one near here to just readily get it)

Hot cocoa, more effective than codeine

Water, warm soothes the throat while cold reduces swelling

Warm compress on throat/neck area (hot water bottle, or what I use is just a warm rag)

Peppermint (like Vick's) I mix up 5 drops of EO w/ 1T olive oil & put that on my chest. Put the warm compress on & it really does a good job! Tho it's hard to lay down all the time!

Don't go out in the cold air

Don't talk a lot or get excited (seriously, the cold air makes it worse as does talking 'cos it irritates the throat even more)

violets calm coughs

Ivy leaf extract i.e. ¼ t 3x/day

Slippery elm lozenges i.e. Thayer’s

Run a cool mist humidifier which is more effective than heated at soothing inflamed lung tissues.

Digestive/ IBS/ diarrhea

www.irritable-bowel-syndrome.ws/acacia-fiber.htm

What is acacia fiber?

Acacia fiber is made from organic fiber which comes from the gum of the acacia tree. As well as its properties as a fiber supplement It is also marketed as a 'prebiotic', which means that it increases good gut flora (the friendly bacteria in the gut). The manufacturers say that it also slows down colonic fermentation, which decreases gas and bloating. It contains no gluten, sugar, salt, corn, soy, or yeast.

Most IBS sufferers use the acacia fiber supplement called 'Tummy Fiber', which is produced by Heather Van Vorous, the author of the best-selling IBS books Eating for IBS and The First Year - IBS. She is also an IBS sufferer herself and an expert on the condition.

www.helpforibs.com/shop/suplmts/acacia.asp

Note: I have digestive problems & was diagnosed w/ IBS. The doc wanted me on fiber like Metamucil but I can’t have sugar as I’m intolerant of it & I won’t do the sugar free as it’s artificial. So I searched for more info & came across acacia fiber.

Rice: Curbs diarrhea. Tea: Black and green tea (not herbals) contain catechin, a phytochemical purported to have natural antibiotic and anti-diarrhea effects.

Earache

Last summer, I had an infection in my left ear. I had to go to the doc ‘cos I could barely eat w/ the pain. Got antibiotics & drops. After it was cleared up, I searched for a natural remedy & came across this one that’s good for swimmer’s ear, which is what my infection was like as opposed to inside the ear:

Combine equal parts of garlic juice, glycerin, & a CO (carrier oil) such as olive. Put 1-3 drops in infected ear every 3 hours. Refrigerate unused portions. Throw out after a week.

Garlic is a natural antibiotic.

I had another infection coming on earlier this year. I had prayed to God to heal my ear. I had a week before my Lasik appt (on 4-4-08). & felt the signs of the same ear infection as before. I didn’t want an infection or anything ‘cos didn’t want it to impede my Lasik in case I get an infection w/ that & my body would be too worn down to fight. So I made the above & God told me to lay down for ½ an hour while it worked. Noticeable improvement! My ear was hurting to the point of excruciating pain & afterwards, it was only a dull ache. I continued & my ear cleared up w/in a day or two.

So try it next time you get an infection.

I tend to get wax buildup easily as well which I mix up 1t olive oil & 2 drops lavender EO. It helps soften the wax then my husb helps syringe it out w/ HP & water.

Energy/ wake up better/ alertness

www.wakeupontime.com  I’ve been using this one & it seems to help me. Another one I found in one of my magazines. The lady who invented it made it to be time released. She needed energy to wake up but needed help to wake up! This you take 7 hours before you want to wake up. I’m sensitive to most things & this one doesn’t make me jittery or irritable.

Gotu Kola makes you smarter by enhancing mental functioning & stimulating blood & oxygen flow to the brain. 2- 450 mg capsules a day.

Bacopa monnieri boosts brain power. Improves alertness & mental functioning, increases learning speed & even lowers depression. Works by strengthening & protecting the synapses in the brain’s memory center, reducing the effect of stress on the brain. 100 mg daily at health food stores.

Prickly pear cactus juice for alertness

purslane hikes up your happiness, contain AHA

dandelion to ease stress, high in B vits. dandelion leaves, USDA ranks more nutritious than broccoli & spinach

Eye care

Under eye & dark circles- put aloe vera then potato under eyes 20min. AV tightens, potato helps w/ swelling.

Tired eye compress- 5 drops lavender oil to wet rag.

Puffy eye help- 1t salt in 1c warm water, dip cotton ball & apply to areas around eyes. Let dry, rinse. The electrical charges in salt attract water molecules, drawing out retained moisture that causes the under-eye area to swell.

Inside eyes need to be pink. Pale color means low iron.

At night, I use those cold eye masks that you keep in the freezer. It helps reduce puffiness & wakes up tired eyes.

Bilberry- help keep eyesight sharp. Packed w/ flavonoids.

face lotion

¼ c CO & 10-15 drops EO

Hair

-No 'poo-

Use baking soda, apple cider vinegar, or lemon juice.

Helps define curls & halt frizz.

What I do is at night coat my hair lightly w/ my hair oil. In morn, I get ready the ¼ t BS & put it in a cup. I have separate 2 oz LJ (ACV doesn't work for my hair). I get my hair wet & then pour the LJ onto the BS. It will foam (hence why need to have it ready & keep it separate). I use that foam to rub my scalp & when it stops foaming (it does fast), I pour some water in the cup & rinse the rest of my hair. Then rinse w/ cool water to help seal the cuticles.

I have curly hair. I don't use a pick anymore & don't brush. What I do is finger comb it wet. Taken from Curly Girl book by Lorraine Massey. I don’t pile it in a towel as it damages the hair. I love my curly/wavy hair & this is quite simple to do. I just blot it as best as I can & leave it alone.

If anybody else has curly/wavy hair, try her book too. The no ‘poo is good for anybody.

-Shampoo recipe (for those who are not willing to go no ‘poo)

5 oz lavender castile liquid soap (Dr. Bronner’s is best), 3 oz water, 30 drops EO (mix & match for your own taste) in an 8 oz bottle:

Handbags

Recent studies found that most women’s purses had tens of thousands of bacteria on the bottom and a few were overrun with millions. Another study found bugs like pseudomonas (which can cause eye infections) and skin-infection-causing staphylococcus bacteria, as well as salmonella and E. coli.

Reduce the risk: Instead of slinging your bag on the floor, hang it on a hook whenever possible — especially in public bathrooms — and keep your bag off the kitchen counter. Stick with leather or vinyl purses, which are typically cleaner than cloth.- MSNBC
